The Cleveland Guardians’ farm system is strong on position players, with the likes of Travis Bazzana, Chase DeLauter, Juan Brito, Angel Genao, Ralphy Velazquez and Jaison Chourio.
There aren’t as many top pitchers with significant strikeout upside in the system, although one or two stand out.
When it comes strictly to strikeout potential, no one in the system can beat Matt Wilkinson.
The man in the hulking frame people call ‘Tugboat’ had a breakout performance in the minor leagues this year.
He was spotted in Alberta, Canada, throwing a rather competitive bullpen session and getting ready for the upcoming campaign.

You can see how he uses most of his pitches and the exciting movement most of them have.
The 22-year-old lefty was a 10th round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft out of Central Arizona College.
From that moment, all he has done has been impress.
He was assigned to Single-A Lynchburg to open the year and posted a brilliant 1.12 ERA in eight starts, striking out 71 in 40.1 frames.
Then, in 16 starts with the Lake County Captains (High-A) his ERA was at 2.30 in 78.1 innings, with a shocking 103 punchouts.
Thanks to a highly deceptive fastball and improving secondaries, ‘Tugboat’ is starting to climb up the organizational prospect rankings.
He might not profile as an ace, but he sure is getting more exciting by the day.
