The Cleveland Guardians could lose one of their most important coaches.
Associate manager Craig Albernaz is being linked to multiple vacancies.
According to Joe Noga of Cleveland.com, the Minnesota Twins could look to hire Albernaz as their manager, which would keep him in the AL Central.
“The Twins is an intriguing one,” Noga said. “It’d be kind of awkward and weird to look across the diamond 13 times a year to see ‘Alby’ in the dugout over there.”
That’s what comes with having a high-end staff.
It’s a blessing and a curse, as other teams will try to pry them away.
The Guardians have several things to address with their coaching staff this offseason.
Manager Stephen Vogt took over in 2024 on a three-year contract, so they likely want to give him an extension.
Vogt has earned it, as he has a better record than Terry Francona had in his first two seasons, and he’s led the Guardians to consecutive divisional titles.
Cleveland trailed the Detroit Tigers by as many as 15.5 games this season before becoming the first MLB team to overcome that big a deficit to win a division.
The way Vogt kept the players motivated and focused was impressive, and if anyone still had doubts about him as a manager, based on his prior inexperience, that shouldn’t be the case anymore.
However, he may have to move on without Albernaz by his side.
