The Cleveland Guardians are expected to play two games on Friday against the Detroit Tigers, if weather conditions allow it, of course. The action will be at Progressive Field.
Ahead of the two key clashes, they announced some roster moves. An important member of the bullpen was placed on the injured list, but one versatile swingman is coming up to replace him after completing a rehab assignment himself.

Colin Holderman, who has an excellent 2.73 ERA in 52.2 innings this season, will be on the shelf for a while as he deals with some inflammation in his right wrist. The issue is not believed to be major, but until the Guardians offer a more concise update, fans won’t know for sure.
To take his place on the roster, the team is bringing up Slade Cecconi. The right-hander was a member of the rotation to open the year, but lost his place when the Guardians traded for Foster Griffin. He has a 5.07 ERA in 110 frames in 2026.
Cecconi made a couple of bullpen appearances in August before suffering from right arm fatigue and hitting the IL on August 7. He is expected to be a reliever moving forward.
Carlos Hernandez, who pitched in two games in September after being called up to begin the month, has now been designated for assignment. Since he’s out of minor league options, the team will have to place him on outright waivers. If he’s claimed, he will leave the Guardians, but if he isn’t, there’s a chance he agrees to join Triple-A Columbus’ roster.
To replace Hernandez on the roster, Cleveland is calling up right-hander Austin Peterson. The soon-to-be-27-year-old career minor leaguer will make his MLB debut whenever manager Stephen Vogt puts him in a game.
Peterson has a 4.53 ERA in 95.1 innings with the Clippers, striking out 102 batters while walking 34. His upside isn’t huge, but he projects as a solid backend starter if given the chance, or perhaps a middle reliever. Friday’s doubleheader represents a huge opportunity for him to showcase his talent.
