In MLB, every team has its usual starters at specific positions.
They also have one or two utility types, players who can successfully cover multiple positions without being a liability in any of them.
The Cleveland Guardians have more than a few of those.
In fact, there are currently four players with those traits on the Guardians roster: Tyler Freeman, David Fry, Daniel Schneemann, and Gabriel Arias.
Schneemann, a rookie, hasn’t played much, but has left an incredible impression in just seven games.
“Daniel Schneemann played six different positions in his first six MLB games. #ForTheLand. ‘It’s an embarrassment of riches. Every day, the 26 guys we have, we wanna be able to mix and match what we have.’ – @JLEWFifty on the versatility of so many players,” BIGPLAY Cleveland Show tweeted, with a video of Jensen Lewis, a Guardians analyst, reviewing and summarizing the situation.

The Guards do have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to position player depth.
The thing is that many of those players aren’t hitting at the moment, so putting them in the lineup might be counterproductive.
Arias, for example, is versatile but is boasting a .581 OPS.
Schneemann, on the other hand, is hitting .357/.526/.571 and deserves more playing time.
Fry (1.017 OPS) has become an elite performer this season, and Freeman is doing his best while adjusting to a new position.
If the Guardians can get Arias, Freeman, Brayan Rocchio, Bo Naylor, and Will Brennan (or some combination of them) to consistently perform, they could be nearly unbeatable.
It’s easier said than done, but even with all of them failing to return the numbers expected from them, there is no denying that there is talent and versatility all around the roster.
