Injuries are often extremely disruptive for a player’s streaks and peaks in form.
If you are consistently hitting the cover off the ball and have to stop for 15 or 20 days because of an injury, chances are you won’t be as good immediately upon returning.
It takes a while to become comfortable with the mechanics of the swing again, and the vast majority of players take some time to be productive again.
Well, Cleveland Guardians leadoff hitter Steven Kwan is not your average player.
He was raking in early-April, hitting over .300 and thriving on plate discipline, defense, and baserunning, too.
He then suffered a hamstring strain on May 4 and was forced to sit for weeks, returning on May 31.
Far from struggling with his rhythm, Kwan has been a true beast since returning and is putting up elite contact numbers.
“The world is not talking enough about the fact that Steven Kwan was out for 27 days, came back, and has an 8-game hitting streak with 15 hits in 30 AB’s since returning,” Michael Hook tweeted.

15 hits in a span of 30 at-bats is insane.
That’s good for a .500 batting average.
For the season, Kwan is actually flirting with the vaunted .400 average threshold, hitting .380/.445/.534 with a .979 OPS.
He has 17 walks and just 14 strikeouts.
Hitters who earn more walks than they strike out are a rare species.
Kwan is the perfect leadoff hitter for the Guardians lineup.
Maybe he won’t finish the year with a .380 average, but even a .300 mark and an OBP near .380 would be huge.
Both numbers are certainly attainable.
