The Cleveland Guardians are proving why teams must keep fighting until the very last second.
That’s because the roster is full of players who also had to fight bones and nails to get where they are right now.
However, none of them may have been through as much as George Valera.
The talented outfielder is finally living his life’s dream after years of struggles.
With that in mind, he shared an emotional quote about what it means to finally be in the majors:
“This is the best moment of my life right now,” said Valera, whose chance at the big leagues was delayed by one injury after another until this year. “My family, my friends, my teammates and this organization has made it a lot easier to keep going and not give up on my dream.”
Not so long ago, Valera was considered to be one of the single best prospects in all of baseball.
Injuries derailed the start to his promising career to the point where it seemed he might never reach the majors.
Even the Guardians parted ways with him, but only briefly, and they brought him back because they still believed in him as both a player and a person.
The confidence paid off, as he has been a prime reinforcement for Stephen Vogt’s team in the final stretch of the season.
He’s had some big swings, proving that he has the talent to not only survive but actually thrive in The Show.
Of course, given his history, injuries will always be a part of the equation with him, and the team must err on the side of caution at the earliest sign of injury.
Hopefully, that will only be a distant memory, and he will go on to enjoy a long and successful career.
