The Cleveland Guardians are the hottest team in baseball right now.
They’ve now won another series over the Detroit Tigers, and they control their own destiny in the playoff race.
With that in mind, MLB insider Bob Nightengale revealed the team’s magic number to secure a spot in the postseason:
“The Cleveland Guardians are in first place! Magic number: 3. They were 15 1/2 games out two months ago, 12 1/2 games out one month ago, and 9 1/2 games out two weeks ago. Stunning,” Nightengale posted on X.

It’s crazy to think that the Guardians are in this position right now.
It’s so crazy that it’s literally unprecedented.
No team in Major League Baseball history had ever overcome such a huge deficit to climb its way back to win the division.
This speaks volumes about the massive collapse from the Tigers, and A.J. Hinch’s team will have to do plenty of soul-searching.
But more than that, it’s also a credit to Stephen Vogt’s ability to keep his team focused and grounded through the storm.
It hasn’t been easy, and it definitely hasn’t been pretty, but the Guardians have kept their heads down and have continued to do their job.
Not even the nine-game losing streaks or failing to win at least 10 games in June were enough to break this team’s spirit.
That type of determination and mindset can take a team a long way in a win-or-go-home situation.
We’ve seen it way too many times in the past, and it’s not always the most talented team that gets the job done.
All it takes is to play well when it matters most, and no team is playing better baseball than the Cleveland Guardians right now.
