The Cleveland Guardians haven’t gotten much out of their starting rotation this season.
That’s why it was so refreshing to see Tanner Bibee dominate against the Minnesota Twins.
Bibee allowed just one run in the win, a solo homer to Ty France.
Following the game, he talked about how much it meant to him to be a reliable and consistent player, and he let his teammates know that they can trust him to get the job done:
“I want to be the guy my teammates turn to and that they expect to do that everytime out,” said Bibee.
Bibee started off the game with 11 consecutive outs.
Then, Carlos Correa got him with a two-double in the fourth.
Bibee took care of business to retire Trevor Larnach and get through the inning.
Then, France connected on a 1-1 pitch to lead off the fifth inning with a solo homer to even things up at 1-1.
It was the ninth home run that Bibee has allowed this season, which is the second-most in the entire league this season.
The Twins kept going at Bibee with a couple of one-out singles, but he bounced back to retire Christian Vazquez and Edouard Julien to get out of trouble.
All in all, Bibee had a solid outing and gave the team seven strong frames.
He held the Twins to one run on five hits and, sadly enough, became the first Guardians pitcher to go seven innings this season.
With Shane Bieber still out, Bibee was expected to be the de facto ace for this team.
Hopefully, he will be able to build from this strong outing and finally get some momentum after a shaky start to the season.
