Following a three-hour rain delay at Progressive Field, the Cleveland Guardians gave their fans one of the best moments of the young season.
Kyle Manzardo sent us home with a walk-off homer to give the team a 2-1 win over the visiting Minnesota Twins.
He’s been very solid this season, and Stephen Vogt didn’t hesitate to send him out there because he knew what he was capable of:
“He got a pitch in the honey hole and when Manzo is right, he’s not going to miss it,” said Vogt of the walk-off homer.
Manzardo connected on a 1-1 changeup from Louis Varland and sent the ball right into the right field seats.
The game was tied at one after Bo Naylor also hit a solo homer, with Ty France hitting one of his own for the visitors.
The moonshot ended the team’s three-game losing streak.
On another positive note, Guardians starter Tanner Bibee was quite sharp in the win.
He got things started by retiring the first 11 hitters he faced before Carlos Correa got him with a two-out double in the fourth inning.
Bibee stayed in control and took care of Trevor Larnach to keep the 1-0 lead safe.
Then, in the following inning, France got him with a homer to center field off a 1-1 pitch to even things up.
Notably, that was Bibee’s ninth homer allowed this year, which is the second most allowed by any starter this season.
Even so, he still managed to toss seven quality innings.
Another positive note was Emmanuel Clase’s performance, as he worked the ninth and was credited with the win in his second appearance on the ten-game homestand.
