The Cleveland Guardians needed a little luck to get to the finish line on Sunday.
Of course, they also made their own luck with their hard work, but it never hurts to be a little fortunate.
It took them a walk-off hit by pitch with the bases loaded to secure a spot in the playoffs.
That’s why, following the game, All-Star outfielder Steven Kwan had an interesting choice of words to describe the win, as quoted by Cleveland sports analyst Aaron Goldhammer:
“The epitome of Guards ball,” Kwan said, via Aaron Goldhammer.

It’s hard to disagree with that statement.
The Guardians rallied behind their elite pitching to stay in this tough game, even when things weren’t going their way at the plate.
The stakes had never been higher, as they had dropped games they had to win after their biggest series of the year, and it could’ve all gone to waste.
The Guardians have been the most resilient team in all of baseball, and they deserve all the credit in the world for this impressive turnaround after such a slow start to the season.
As for Kwan, he has struggled to be at his best at the plate in the past four games or so, and while he might be saving his best for the playoffs, he should definitely use Sunday’s regular-season finale to get back on track.
