The weekend has been really rough for the Cleveland Guardians on the injury front. On Saturday, Angel Martinez departed the game after fouling a ball off his foot. Chase DeLauter also left that game with a bruised right ribcage.
On top of all that, superstar Jose Ramirez fractured the hamate bone in his left wrist and has already been ruled out for several weeks. Yes, tough times in Cleveland indeed.
We already know that J-Ram will be out for a month at least, and his power could be negatively impacted by the injury once he is ready to return. The other two injured stars, however, have a chance to return sooner.
Manager Stephen Vogt updated the status of Martinez and DeLauter on Sunday, and it’s mostly good news.
On Martinez, the skipper said that “there’s a slight chance he could be available to come off the bench today (Sunday), but we’re hoping with the off day he’ll be ready to go on Tuesday.”

Basically, the Guardians would love to give the exciting power-speed threat Sunday off, so he can have two days to rest ahead of Tuesday’s new series. If he needs to enter Sunday’s finale, however, he could be available.
On DeLauter, Vogt was a bit more cautious: “Chase got the MRI, and then got a CT scan late last night, so our medical staff is still working through the information on that. We don’t quite have all the results back or specific what’s going on, but we’ll know more in the next 24-48 hours.”
The rookie got hurt after crashing into the wall at the top of the first inning. He hit a single in the bottom part of that inning, but was lifted for a pinch-runner.
The Guardians hope they can get him back in the lineup relatively soon, because they have already lost too much power and production with Ramirez’s injury.
Cleveland’s overall depth will be tested in the next few hours, as they try to successfully navigate through these physical ailments.
It appears that Martinez will be the first of the injured players to return to the Guardians’ lineup. DeLauter’s status depends on the results of his tests, but he should be back before Ramirez, who is looking at a long absence.
