The Cleveland Guardians have been ecstatic to get left fielder Steven Kwan back from the injured list, and he picked up right where he left off on Friday night and racked up three hits out of the leadoff spot in Friday’s win.
The downside of Kwan’s return is figuring out what it means for David Fry, who has been one of the hottest hitters in the league and thrived during Kwan’s absence with increased playing time, but manager Stephen Vogt had something to say on that topic.
Vogt spoke before yesterday’s 3-2 win over the Washington Nationals and spoke about Fry starting in left field the day after Kwan returned, admitting that he’s not sure about the defensive mix/DH role that Fry will have going forward, but reiterated that he’s going to find a way to keep Fry’s hot bat in the lineup regardless.

Vogt added, “I don’t know what the perfect mix for David is. He’s never caught more than 35-40 games in a season. He has the ability to move around which allows us to get people off their feet when he plays, which allows us to get his bat in the lineup as many ways as possible.”
Vogt also added that he has earned his way into more playing time and that they’re going to find it regardless of where Fry suits up on the diamond or in the batting order.
This is great news, as Fry’s bat has become an indispensable part of this lineup with a 1.128 OPS through 41 games.
