Steven Kwan made his triumphant return to the top of the Cleveland Guardians lineup last night and went 3-for-4 with a walk, an RBI, and a pair of runs scored in the team’s 7-1 win over the Washington Nationals.
Kwan’s return brought forth an interesting stat that shows just how good he has been so far this season despite just missing almost half the season.
Cleveland Stats posted on Twitter that Kwan leads the majors with eight 3-hit games despite missing nearly a month, as he is tied with Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Luis Arraez of the San Diego Padres despite having nearly 100 fewer at-bats than both of them.
Kwan leads MLB with eight 3-hit games, despite missing nearly a month on IL:
Most 3-Hit Games – 2024
Steven Kwan: 8 (137 AB)
Mookie Betts: 8 (230 AB)
Luis Arráez: 8 (240 AB)
Shohei Ohtani: 7 (224 AB)
William Contreras: 7 (229 AB)
José Altuve: 7 (237 AB)pic.twitter.com/bLO1KEcGog— Cleveland Stats (@CLE_STATS) June 1, 2024
Tied for second with seven 3-hit games so far are Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers, William Contreras of the Milwaukee Brewers, and Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros.
Kwan’s average is up to .365 and his OPS is up to .924 as he picked up right where he left off as the elite table-setter this team needs.
His average doesn’t qualify due to not having enough at-bats, but Kwan would be leading the league in batting average by a hefty margin if he had the at-bats.
With Jose Ramirez and David Fry on a tear behind him, putting Kwan and his elite on-base skills ahead of them should mean great things for this offense as it heads into a favorable stretch of games.
You have to love having a guy with a .420 on-base percentage in front of the guy leading the league in RBI by eight.
