The Cleveland Guardians have been solid this season.
They might not be the top team in the American League, but they’ve looked the part despite some serious woes to their pitching.
It’s still way too early to tell, but it seems like the race for the top spot in the AL Central Division might be one for the ages.
That’s, of course, unless you are the Chicago White Sox.
As pointed out by MLB insider Bob Nightengale on X, the Guardians, Minnesota Twins, Detroit Tigers, and Kansas City Royals have a combined record of 74-9 when they allow three or fewer runs.
The White Sox, on the other hand, are just 9-10 in those situations.

Notably, this speaks volumes about the massive disparity all teams have with the White Sox.
It’s also another big example as to why there should be a salary cap in Major League Baseball.
Teams like the White Sox are essentially waving the white flag early in the season because they will still get plenty of revenue regardless of their lack of competitiveness.
This might help the rest of the division in the short run, but it’s not good for the sport.
As things stand now, the Guardians are tied with the Royals for second place, trailing the Tigers by just 2.5 games.
The Twins are a little below, 2.5 games behind both of them.
As for the White Sox, they’re already 14.0 games behind first place, and we’re not even midway through May yet.
