Cleveland Guardians infielder Welbyn Francisca might not be a household name yet, but the 20-year-old future star is sure starting to make some noise in the prospect ranks. Not only did he enjoy a highly successful minor league season in 2026, but he is also tearing the cover off the ball in the Arizona Fall League.
Francisca is hitting an incredible .410 with a 1.160 OPS, three home runs, 23 RBIs and four stolen bases across just 13 games. Accumulating 23 RBI in just 13 contests is wild, for lack of a better word.
Francisca has grown so much in the last year that he reached Double-A Akron to wrap up the 2026 minor league campaign. It’s still an unlikely scenario, but there’s definitely a world in which he gets the call to the majors at some point next year.
Cleveland.com’s Joe Noga discussed the possibility on the Cleveland Baseball Talk Podcast and painted a realistic scenario involving Francisca and the star of the team.
“Wouldn’t surprise me one bit to look down at the end of the bench and, at some point in 2027, down the end of the Guardians dugout where José Ramírez likes to set up camp with the younger guys like Angel Martinez and Angel Genao, look up and see Welbyn Francisca sitting at the feet of Ramírez,” Noga said.
Ramirez is one of the Guardians’ role models for young prospects trying to prove themselves in the majors, particularly those from Latin America. Francisca could have the perfect mentor in J-Ram, a future Hall of Fame candidate and one of the most influential Guardians players of all time.
Francisca can do several things on a baseball field, most notably hit. In 79 games in the Arizona Complex League, High-A, and Double-A, he slashed a cool .272/.366/.513 with 19 home runs, 16 stolen bases, and a solid 122 wRC+. That’s comfortably above the league average.
Since Francisca played just five games in Double-A, he still needs to prove himself at that level. That’s where he will probably start his 2027 journey. If he can sustain a good performance there, he might be ticketed for Triple-A at some point.
Nobody knows when exactly Francisca will make it to the majors. However, prospects are convinced he can make quite an impact once established there.
