Cleveland Guardians fans have had the great pleasure of watching and enjoying Jose Ramirez’s entire career. The third baseman has grown from an intriguing young prospect to a veteran franchise cornerstone and potential Baseball Hall of Famer.
There have been many highlights along the way, and another significant one is on the horizon. With that in mind, MLB.com recently named some of the things it’s looking forward to this season.
Notably, Ramirez could notch a major career milestone of 300 home runs in 2026.
“Several players are within striking distance of some major milestones in 2026. Ohtani is only 20 home runs shy of 300 for his magnificent career, and other players who could reach 300 career homers this year include [Francisco] Lindor, Pete Alonso, Mookie Betts, Jose Ramirez, George Springer and Matt Olson,” Manny Randhawa wrote.
Entering his 14th season, Ramirez has 285 career home runs. After hitting 30 and 39 home runs in the past two seasons, respectively, getting to 300 is well within reach.
Interestingly, former teammate Lindor is about to achieve the mark as well. The New York Mets shortstop hit 138 home runs in six seasons with Cleveland, and has a total of 279 in his career.
Perhaps reaching a significant milestone such as this can help Ramirez draw the attention he needs to finally win the AL MVP award. Last season, he finished third in the voting behind Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees and Cal Raleigh of the Seattle Mariners, who each drew headlines for their home run prowess.
Another standout season from Ramirez could also help the Guardians reach their goal of getting back to the World Series. Despite a historic rally to win the AL Central in 2025, the Guardians were knocked out of the playoffs in the first round after reaching the ALCS the season before.
A notable milestone with an AL MVP honor and a World Series title would be a season for the ages for Ramirez and the Guardians.
