The Cleveland Guardians have one of the best and most consistent players in all of baseball. You always know what you’re getting from Jose Ramirez, and while some might not be excited about a ‘predictable’ player, that’s the definition of reliability.
More than that, it feels like people have somewhat normalized what he’s been able to do every single year. It’s almost as if they’re taking him for granted. Make no mistake, there’s absolutely nothing ordinary about what Ramirez does, not even if he does it every year.
With that in mind, team insider Joe Noga wanted to give the Dominican superstar his flowers. In the latest edition of his podcast, he made a not-so-bold prediction about where Ramirez is heading.
“When you think of the Cleveland franchise, you think Bob Feller as the greatest player in franchise history. But José Ramírez is on a career path to overtake Feller,” said Joe Noga, cleveland.com Guardians beat reporter, during a recent podcast discussion.
Truth be told, there’s no reason to believe Ramirez can’t go down as the single greatest player in franchise history. He’s got the talent, the numbers, and the durability. He has shown no signs of slowing down over time: if anything, he may have gotten better.
The Guardians have failed to surround him with the type of elite talent that he needs and deserves to get to the next level. Even so, he’s rarely complained and has still put the team on his shoulders to make sure they stay competitive.
It takes a lot to succeed in this league, and it’s always a shame when the best players don’t get the recognition they’ve earned. Hopefully, Ramirez will get what he’s due at some point in the near future.
