The Cleveland Guardians are arguably the hottest team in baseball.
They have won seven of their last eight games and are slowly cutting into the Detroit Tigers’ lead in the AL Central.
After sweeping the New York Mets on Wednesday afternoon, the Guards are now 6.5 games behind the Tigers, and the number can get down to six if Detroit loses against Minnesota on Wednesday.
Cleveland enjoyed an incredible pitching performance from one of its young aces, Gavin Williams, as they won 4-1 in New York to complete the sweep.
The talented righty flirted with a no-hitter, losing it in the ninth inning due to a home run by Juan Soto.
He was so close to stopping a long-standing drought in franchise history.
“Guardians remain without a no-hitter since 1981 — longest current drought in MLB. Williams will flirt with more in the future. He’s growing before our eyes,” Guardians analyst Tom Withers posted on X.

Williams, through eight innings of work, had allowed no runs or hits and had given up just three walks.
He retired the first hitter of the ninth inning, Francisco Lindor no less, via strikeout, but Soto caught a 1-0 pitch and sent it deep to center field for a home run that broke the spell.
After getting Pete Alonso to fly out and walking Brandon Nimmo, manager Stephen Vogt decided that Williams’ day was over.
He tossed 8.2 frames, allowing just that one hit (and run), walking four, and striking out six in another masterpiece.
His season ERA is now down to a rock-solid 3.17, as he continues to mature before our eyes.
Hunter Gaddis got the 27th out and earned the save for the surging Guardians.
