For a second consecutive night, the Cleveland Guardians’ offense looked helpless at the plate.
On Monday, they at least scored two runs against the San Diego Padres’ pitching staff accumulating eight hits.
Tuesday? It was a rough day, for the lack of a better word.
Michael King and the Padres’ bullpen limited Cleveland to just two hits and kept them off the scoreboard in a 7-0 win for the Friars at PETCO Park.

In their last two games against a potential NL West contender, Cleveland has scored two runs and allowed 14.
Just like it happened on Monday, starting pitching was a big problem on Tuesday.
Logan Allen managed to limit the damage to four runs in 5.1 innings but allowed too much traffic on the basepaths (five walks and seven hits), and his stuff didn’t fool anyone (just one strikeout.)
Time will tell if it was just an off night for a pitcher who posted a 1.89 ERA and won the fifth starter job in spring training or if his talent level is closer to the hurler who put up a 5.73 ERA last year.
The defense was also uncharacteristically bad, with two blunders.
As for the offense, it racked up just two hits against 16 strikeouts.
Yes, it’s not a typo: they struck out 16 times, working just three walks.
It was an embarrassing showing.
Nolan Jones wore the ‘Golden Sombrero’ with four punchouts, and Steven Kwan, Bo Naylor, Gabriel Arias, and Daniel Schneemann accumulated two each.
The Guardians will close out this nightmarish series on Wednesday when Ben Lively takes on Padres’ ace Dylan Cease starting at 4:10 pm ET.
