The Cleveland Guardians are enjoying this stretch of their schedule against a number of the worst teams in baseball. It’s just what they needed to get back on track. They have won three in a row and four out of five after squeaking by the Colorado Rockies on Saturday and will look to complete the sweep on Sunday.
A trip to the altitude in Denver has been helpful so far for Cleveland’s offense, which was in need of a shot in the arm. One key player who is starting to wake up a bit is Jose Ramirez, who has been having some better at-bats lately and even reached a milestone on Saturday.
Sometimes it feels like Ramirez collects a new accolade every other day. Mason Horodyski of WEWS noted on X that his latest accolade was passing Charlie Jamieson for fifth place on Cleveland’s all-time hits list with 1,752 after his single in the fourth inning.
“José RamÃrez takes sole possession of 5th all time in carreer hits as a #Guardians with his 1752nd, passing Charlie Jamieson,” Horodysi wrote.

Ramirez is having the worst year of his career, but he is hitting .286 with a pair of doubles over his last seven games and is hopefully getting back to his old self. Broken hamate bones can sap hitters of their power for months on end even after recovering, which could be why Ramirez hasn’t homered since returning from the IL, but the doubles are a good sign.
Joe Sewell is up next on the hit list in the No. 4 spot with 1,800. After that is Earl Averill at 1,903, Tris Speaker at 1,965, and Nap Lajoie as the all-time leader with 2,052. With Ramirez under contract for a long time, he could quite easily become Cleveland’s all-time hit leader sometime in 2028.
At his current pace and with a contract that gives him the opportunity to finish his career in Cleveland, Ramirez could lead this franchise in quite a few categories by the time he is done. The days are numbered on Lajoie’s hit record, but for now, let’s hope Ramirez can get back to his usual level of production and help guide this team on a deep playoff run.
