The Cleveland Guardians had their choice for a prospect when they picked first in the 2024 MLB Draft.
They had a chance to add a top pitcher from each hand or a potent slugger.
They went with Travis Bazzana, one of the most well-rounded players in the Draft, and they don’t regret it one bit.
In his first taste of professional ball work the Lake County Captains in High-A, Bazzana showed off some impressive skills and has become, slowly but steadily, the face of Australian baseball.
His goal, he said, is to show he is good enough to move quickly in the Guardians system.
“It’s about showing that I’m prepared to move [up in the system]… just trusting my process, preparing well every day…” 2024 No. 1 overall pick Travis Bazzana shares how he’s preparing himself to hopefully be a quick riser in the Guardians’ Pipeline,” MLB Network posted on X.

The 22-year-old second baseman hit .238/.369/.396 with a 126 wRC+ in what it’s considered traditionally a pitcher’s league.
He also hit three home runs and stole five bases in 27 games.
The best thing in his offensive profile is his ability to draw walks.
He walked in 13.9 percent of his at-bats, which is a very cool number.
He also strikes out a ton, but considering it was his first taste of pro ball, the team is happy with the results.
He is expected to play in Double-A at some point in 2025.
If he can ace that level, then the Guardians could start thinking about a call-up.
Bazzana is considered the Guardians’ second baseman of the future, and for good reason.
