It seemed like the Cleveland Guardians’ postseason hopes were slipping through their fingers yet again.
Now, they still have a chance.
That’s why Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report moved them up in his weekly power rankings, from No. 18 to No. 16.
“The Guardians took two of three from the [Tampa Bay] Rays and [Seattle] Mariners at home, putting a brutal 1-9 stretch in the rearview and keeping their long-shot playoff hopes alive for another week,” Reuter wrote.
Of course, that’s still not ideal, and not many teams in the middle of the pack go far in the playoffs, if they even make them.
Yet, the Guardians have shown that you can never count them out.
They’ve endured multiple losing streaks, getting back on their feet to keep their postseason hopes alive.
They haven’t been as good as they expected this season, mostly because of inconsistencies at the plate.
But the fact that they’re still alive and with a chance to make the playoffs after all they’ve been through is a reflection of their resiliency and determination, not to mention Stephen Vogt’s ability to keep his players motivated.
The Guardians have multiple games against their competitors for an AL Wild Card, including the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers.
They also have six games against the AL Central-leading Detroit Tigers.
It won’t be easy, and the Guardians can’t afford to lose many more games, but with some strong weeks to close the season, they might earn a postseason berth.
