The Cleveland Guardians didn’t have the type of season they hoped for in the first half.
Fortunately, there’s still plenty of baseball left to be played.
With a forgiving schedule awaiting them, Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report believes they’re poised for a breakout second half.
He recently shared his thoughts on the Guardians’ encouraging prospects for the rest of the season.
“All seemed lost when the Guardians dropped 10 in a row between June 26 and July 6, but this would appear to be a ‘hold your horses’ situation. Cleveland subsequently won six out of seven to close the first half, and then opened the second with an 8-6 win over the Athletics. They’re a bottom-feeder, of course, but that brings us to the kicker: Cleveland’s remaining schedule is easy. Then there’s the other reason to believe the Guardians will stay in the race: They just usually do, as they have missed the playoffs only three times since 2016,” Rymer wrote.
Some say the Guardians will be sellers at the trade deadline, but there’s no reason to panic right now.
The team isn’t that far behind in the AL Wild Card race, and moving on from important players won’t help their cause at all.
Of course, it’s hard to believe they will be interested in acquiring more offense and giving up prospects to improve their chances of contention, but they should be just fine as long as they don’t blow up the roster, either.
C.J. Kayfus has been a star at Triple-A Columbus this season, and he’s someone to keep a close eye on for the remainder of the year.
The Guardians could use his offensive spark and some help in the outfield, and he’s already done more than enough to get called up.
With an easier schedule and several teams most likely set to throw in the towel in the next couple of months, the Guardians have more than enough opportunities to keep their playoff streak going.
