The Cleveland Guardians are in desperate need of some offensive momentum and firepower.
They have time to address that before the trade deadline, but that doesn’t seem to be the course they will take.
That’s why they have to look for reinforcements somewhere else.
Fortunately for them, they have a potential superstar at their Triple-A affiliate.
With that in mind, MLB.com predicted that the Guardians could call up Chase DeLauter.
“DeLauter looks poised to make his MLB debut this summer, but his physical status is a key factor. Injuries have limited the 2022 first-round draft pick to 138 career minor league games, and the Guardians were mindful of his build-up this season after he returned from March core muscle surgery. He recently has been dealing with right wrist soreness, but is having a strong season with Triple-A Columbus, slashing .278/.383/.476 in 34 games,” per MLB.com contributors.
The Guardians have high hopes for DeLauter.
Unfortunately, he has had a tough time staying on the field.
He’s currently dealing with an injured wrist, so the organization will have him consult a hand specialist to determine the extent of that injury and the best course of treatment.
He has played through it for the past three weeks and didn’t look like a player dealing with any type of discomfort.
He’s been raking at Columbus, and doing that while injured speaks volumes about his impressive talent and skill set.
DeLauter is a special player who could turn around any team almost right away.
On the downside, being so injury-prone will also force the team to take things slowly with him.
That might be the only reason the Guardians could wait until next season before finally giving him a chance in the majors.
