The Cleveland Guardians’ season is over, so fans have moved on to thinking about what the team will do in the offseason.
Figuring out what to do with Steven Kwan might be the first order of business.
President of baseball operations Chris Antonetti recently addressed the contract concerns surrounding the All-Star outfielder.
“We have a profound appreciation for Steven Kwan and all that he contributes to the organization, on the field and off. We’d love nothing more than for him to continue to be a Cleveland Guardian. We’ll think about the opportunities that we have to look at that,” Antonetti said.

Kwan’s future with the Guardians has been a talking point for almost a year.
He’s under club control through the 2027 season, but he’s looking for a contract extension.
The parties haven’t been able to strike a deal, and while Kwan has expressed a desire to stay for the long run, all options, including a trade, seem to be on the table.
The Guardians did the right thing by holding on to him at this season’s trade deadline, knowing that they could pick up talks for another contract or field calls for him to fetch a more valuable package during the offseason.
Yet, moving on from him wouldn’t send the right message to the team or its fans.
As much as the Guardians always look to manage expenses, Kwan is one of the best players at his position and deserves to be paid as such.
Third baseman Jose Ramirez has already put the team on blast for not making the most of the hometown contract discount he gave them.
Trading his best teammate would suggest that they’re not fully committed to competing at the highest level while he’s still in his prime.
