The Cleveland Guardians got a particularly meaningful win on Thursday, beating the Boston Red Sox, 5-4, at Fenway Park.
It meant a lot because it gave the team another series win and because it tied them with the New York Yankees for MLB’s best record at 13-6.
A 13-6 record for a team who got just two outings out of Shane Bieber and is also without Gavin Williams (and with Triston McKenzie pitching hurt) is very, very impressive.
The Guards have now won series against the Oakland Athletics, the Seattle Mariners, the Minnesota Twins, the Chicago White Sox, and the Red Sox, taking three out of four against the latter this week.
The only organization that has taken a series from Cleveland are the Yankees, winners of two out of three in Cleveland this past weekend.

Thursday’s victory against the Sox had several heroes: the bullpen was effective, and the offense was timely.
However, Carlos Carrasco gave the team a really solid game with just two earned runs conceded in 5.2 innings, striking out five hitters and lowering his ERA to a cool 3.44.
For a guy who looked finished last year with the New York Mets, Carrasco is performing just fine.
The other star of the day for Cleveland was Andres Gimenez.
The talented infielder went 2-for-5 with two RBI.
He had a couple of RBI singles against Boston pitching and was a constant threat every time he went to bat.
The Guardians have had to face some adversity, but they look closer and stronger than ever before.
