Brennan, 28, was originally drafted by Cleveland in the eighth round of the 2019 MLB Draft and worked his way through the organization’s system before making his major league debut. Known for his contact-oriented approach and steady outfield defense, He underwent Tommy John surgery last June.
During his time in Cleveland, Brennan hit .267 across 269 games, collecting 218 hits while providing versatility in the corner outfield spots. While he was never viewed as a middle-of-the-order bat, he offered competitive at-bats and the ability to step into the lineup when needed.
For San Francisco, this is a low-risk move that adds depth and competition to its outfield mix. Brennan’s skill set fits well as a complementary piece: solid defense, contact ability, and experience at the major league level.
For the Guardians, it’s another example of how quickly roster dynamics can shift. Cleveland’s development pipeline has created constant competition for spots, particularly in the outfield. When younger players emerge, tough decisions follow.
Now, he’ll get an opportunity to reset with the Giants and try to carve out a role in a new clubhouse.
These types of moves rarely dominate offseason conversations, but they matter. Depth pieces often become important pieces over the course of a long season.
For Brennan, the next chapter begins in San Francisco.
