The Cleveland Guardians loved what they saw from C.J. Kayfus in the minors.
They then gave him a well-deserved opportunity to prove his worth in the majors, and so far, he hasn’t disappointed.
Now, all he wants to do is prove that he belongs.
Following a strong start to his MLB career, the first baseman/outfielder revealed his goals for the remainder of the season.
“Just, pretty much prove myself to my teammates and coaches who are here at the big league level,” Kayfus said, via NBC Sports. “Really just staying true to myself and playing my game of baseball, you know, situational hitting, whether it’s moving a guy over or getting a clutch two-out RBI.”
The Guardians selected Kayfus in the third round of the 2023 MLB Draft, and while he wasn’t as highly touted a prospect as Chase DeLauter, his continuous growth and steady progress helped him make his way to the majors first.
Kayfus started this season with Double-A Akron and he only needed 18 games to earn a promotion.
Then, he didn’t miss a beat at Triple-A Columbus.
Kayfus has at least one hit in six of his eight MLB starts, including five of his past six.
Though he still needs to clean things up and not chase as many pitches, he’s looked the part in his first MLB action.
Notably, the Guardians are using him mostly in right field, which is a fairly new position for him, as he was used to playing first base.
But with a logjam there, and a big need in the corners of the outfield, it makes perfect sense that the Guardians deploy him as needed.
