Brayan Rocchio has made a name for himself at the plate this season for the Cleveland Guardians. The shortstop is having the best offensive campaign of his career and has made a case for a potential All-Star Game selection in the process.
But on Friday against the Detroit Tigers, Rocchio drew notice for his glove work. In the top of the second inning, Rocchio made an over-the-shoulder grab on a popup to shallow left field off the bat of Colt Kieth.
It led to a 1-2-3 inning for starter Tanner Bibee, and the Guardians took the lead in the bottom of the second. As has become expected this season, Rocchio contributed to that two-run rally with an RBI triple, leading to a 3-2 win.
But it’s Rocchio’s incredible catch that is going viral, with a joyful reaction from the Guardians announcers.
“Brayan Rocchio makes an UNBELIEVABLE play,” MLB posted.

Heading into this season, Rocchio was more highly regarded for his infield defense, and he opened the year as he ended the previous one, as Cleveland’s starting second baseman, holding off rookie prospect Travis Bazzana. However, after Gabriel Arias went on the injured list in early April, Rocchio was moved over to shortstop, where he had played 72 games in 2025.
Through it all, Rocchio just kept on hitting. He entered May with a slash line of .283/.360/.404, which improved to .293/.374/.415 to open June. Heading into play Saturday, Rocchio is at .277/.357/.405, which would all be significant improvements over his career highs from his first two-plus MLB seasons.
He is third on the team with 61 hits, just one behind Chase DeLauter and two behind Jose Ramirez. Rocchio is also fourth in RBIs, just two behind leader DeLauter, which is even more impressive when you consider that he has been batting ninth almost the entire season.
In addition to providing his usual steady defense, he has also helped new double-play partner Bazzana adjust to his first major league season. Even though Arias is playing well at Triple-A, there is no room for him right now on the Guardians’ infield.
Rocchio has been one of Cleveland’s best players in the first half of the year, and he has shown no signs of slowing down.
