The Cleveland Guardians couldn’t take a 1-0 lead in the American League Division Series on Saturday, instead falling into a 0-1 hole at home after losing Game 1 to the Chicago White Sox. Baseball, however, offers good teams an opportunity for redemption.
The Guardians and White Sox will take the field on Monday, starting at 5:00 pm ET, for Game 2 of the best-of-five series. A win gives Cleveland the chance to go to Rate Field with the series tied 1-1.
A loss, however, will mean that they will be with their backs against the wall at 0-2. It is, in many ways, a must-win affair for the Guardians.
Analyst Ken Carman, however, is preaching a more relaxed approach. He doesn’t want to pile on the concern, because that could add some unnecessary pressure to the young Guardians.
“Why pile on the concern? I know the concern. I’m down 0-1 in the series. That’s a concern. What’s the point of me freaking out when we got Gavin Williams pitching today at 5 o’clock? You’re going up against another young team that had three 100-loss seasons,” Carman said.
"Why pile on the concern? I know the concern, I'm down 0-1 in the series…that's a concern." "I'm just surprised how confident you are. It's about what is the lineup going to do today…"

It’s one thing to be concerned, and a much different one to be freaking out. Carman is concerned, but is not freaking out because Gavin Williams, the American League leader in strikeouts this season, will be on the mound.
Of course, it’s also important to point out that the White Sox aren’t a 100-loss team anymore. Yes, they racked up three straight 100-loss seasons from 2023 to 2025, but they aren’t that squad anymore. They have upgraded, they have improved, and they are showing it to the world. They are dangerous.
Carman’s message, however, is that the Guardians are also dangerous. They can also score runs in bunches, and they also have a top bullpen capable of completely silencing any lineup in the league.
All they need to do is get one win. That should be the approach and the mantra for Monday evening: doing everything in their power to secure the victory. If that happens, their chances of advancing would get a nice boost.
