The Cleveland Guardians have one of the most stacked farm systems in the game. Whether it is finding and developing players or trading for them, they’re always on the lookout for young talent.
That’s why it’s not much of a surprise to hear that they should have several potential breakout prospects for the upcoming campaign. With that in mind, Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report dug deep into the numbers and the rosters to choose a potential breakout candidate for this organization. Notably, he chose 20-year-old RHP Braylon Doughty:
“RHP Braylon Doughty (Age: 20),” Reuter wrote. “The No. 36 overall pick in the 2024 draft and the third high school arm off the board, Doughty was traded from the Nationals to the Guardians in exchange for outfielder Lane Thomas before he made his pro debut. After posting a 3.48 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 99 strikeouts in 85.1 innings at Single-A to kick off his career, he has the potential to emerge as a consensus Top 100 prospect in 2026.”
Of course, that’s not to say that he’s going to make his MLB debut next season. He still has plenty of hurdles to clear in his development, and he needs to bulk up and get his body ready to go against actual grown men and professional hitters.
That being said, he should be able to do more than enough to at least enter the team’s radar for the 2027 campaign. Depending on how he fares at Double-A and Triple-A, it shouldn’t be long before people talk about him as one of the team’s stars for the future.
The Guardians have one of the best pitching coaching staffs in all of baseball, and they will work tirelessly with him to bring the best out of his game. He just needs to stay healthy and, more importantly, continue to put in the work. A lot can go sideways in a player’s development, but there are more than enough reasons to be optimistic about Doughty.
