In just a few days, on March 5, fans will be able to enjoy a new edition of the World Baseball Classic.
The tournament is far from perfect, and people aren’t happy because some of the biggest stars will not be playing, but denying its growth would be lying.
A total of nine Cleveland Guardians players are expected to participate: Logan Allen (Panama), Travis Bazzana (Australia), Dylan DeLucia (Italy), Stuart Fairchild (Chinese Taipei), Matt Festa (Italy), Dayan Frias (Colombia), Bo Naylor (Canada), Ryan Prager (Israel), and Matt ‘Tugboat’ Wilkinson (Canada).
ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel, one of the most respected voices when it comes to prospect analysis, named Bazzana among those to watch in the tournament.
“The former first overall pick is knocking on the door of the big leagues and has a plus in-game power and patience combo. There is a question about how good Bazzana’s bat-to-ball ability will be in the big leagues (merely fine vs. quite good), and this high-pressure environment might give us a preview of his big league outlook,” McDaniel wrote.
It will be a good chance for worldwide fans to watch Bazzana and see what he’s made of against solid competition.
The second baseman has been showcasing his wide array of skills since making his High-A debut in 2024.
The lowest wRC+ he has put up so far was in that particular stop, when he had a 126 mark in 27 games in Lake County.
Bazzana, who has been compared to a fan-favorite infielder, boasts power, speed, and excellent plate discipline, and even if the defense is not elite, it’s not expected to be a problem.
This is a premium prospect, and the WBC will serve as a platform for people around the world to get to know him.
And those who don’t follow the Classic will eventually get acquainted with Bazzana, probably later in 2026 when he takes over second base for Cleveland.
Other prospects named in McDaniel’s piece were Mets starter Nolan McLean, Mariners second baseman Michael Arroyo, Marlins outfielder Owen Caissie, and Nationals catcher Harry Ford, among others.
