The Cleveland Guardians have one of the best and most promising second basemen in the minor leagues: Travis Bazzana.
The former No. 1 overall pick is also enjoying a nice spring so far, hitting .250/.333/.625 with a home run and a .958 OPS so far in the Cactus League.
Every sign points to the talented infielder making his debut in the majors at some point this season, but he could benefit from having someone who takes him under his wing, preferably an accomplished veteran who has been in the league for a while and knows exactly how the MLB world works.
Bazzana’s talent and work ethic will be the elements determining his MLB ceiling, but it wouldn’t hurt to listen to advice from one of the best and most underrated players in baseball: Jose Ramirez.
“I think there’s a case to be made to let Bazzana learn from Jose [Ramirez] right away. Let him play alongside Jose from the beginning of the season, see how he takes care of himself, shows at the ballpark every day. I don’t think Bazana needs that, you know, necessarily. I think he gets it already. But those are two guys I think you want in the same room together as much as possible,” Guardians analyst Justin Lada said.
Lada isn’t necessarily talking about Bazzana playing the game exactly like Ramirez, but instead, he implies it would be nice to have him pick up some of J-Ram’s good habits.
The top prospect was recently on the record saying he admires Ramirez’s ability to play the game the right way and have fun at the same time, so he is already paying close attention to his future teammate in the Guardians.
These two developing a good rapport would only bring good things to the clubhouse and to the organization as a whole.
Ramirez is the accomplished star who might be closer to retirement than he is to his MLB debut, and Bazzana is the hot prospect who has his entire career in front of him.
Together, they could lead the Guardians to the promised land.
