The Cleveland Guardians’ farm system continues to make headlines.
One of their prospects has been a big talking point around baseball lately, and he’s looking like a star in the making.
Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report recently named outfielder Alfonsin Rosario as Cleveland’s biggest breakout candidate of the season.
“Rosario hit .230/.344/.423 with 18 home runs and 20 steals last season for the Cubs’ Single-A affiliate, albeit with 147 strikeouts in 109 games. The Guardians acquired him in exchange for reliever Eli Morgan in November, and his 55-power, 60-speed offensive tools have been on display once again this year, accompanied by an improving approach at the plate against higher level competition,” Reuter wrote.
Rosario was promoted to Double-A Akron after excelling at High-A Lake County.
His strikeout rate is worrisome, but it’s better than it was last season in Single-A.
A sixth-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, he’s still a couple of years away from the majors.
He will have to continue getting better at the plate, but the signs of improvement are encouraging.
The No. 11 prospect in the organization, Rosario has all the physical tools to be a dominant force at the next level.
He can hit for contact and power, and he’s a threat when he’s running the bases because of his speed and acceleration.
The Guardians could use as much help as they could get in the outfield, even with C.J. Kayfus reaching the majors and Chase DeLauter most likely the next in line.
So, even though Rosario still has a long way to go, he will be someone to keep a close eye on next season.
