The Cleveland Guardians have one of the worst offenses in baseball this season, and it’s a big reason why the team is on the outside looking in when it comes to the American League playoff race with roughly 20 games remaining.
It was clear the lineup needed upgrades heading into this season, and it’s even more apparent the team needs to make these upgrades ahead of next season, which could happen if 2024 No. 1 overall pick Travis Bazzana is ready to be promoted by then.
Bazzana had himself a day for Triple-A Columbus on Saturday, going 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs in a 12-0 win over Indianapolis.

Bazzana was called up to Columbus about a month ago.
The homers were a great sign, as the power department has been the one nitpick when it comes to his development so far, as Bazzana only has eight homers on the year in 80 games in the minors.
His plate discipline has been outstanding, as Bazzana has 61 walks in the minors this year and a .427 on-base percentage in Columbus.
It’s unlikely fans will see Bazzana in the majors this season, but if he stays on this trajectory, it wouldn’t be outrageous to think he could win the starting second base job in Spring Training next season.
This team needs a big bat in the worst way, and the No. 1 pick is starting to look like the guy this organization thought it was getting when it made him the first overall pick.
