Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan made a second consecutive All-Star team this year and, despite being thrown around in a bunch of trade rumors at the deadline, has remained with the team as it aims to make one last push to return to the postseason in 2025.
It hasn’t been the best second half for Kwan, but he continues to show up every day and do his best to set the table and further establish himself as a cornerstone piece for this franchise.
As fans have continued to get to know him, more interesting tidbits come out about Kwan, including how he recently explained the significance of his No. 38, alluding to Chinese culture that views the No. 3 as a representative of longevity and sees the No. 8 as a lucky number in the way that American culture views the No. 7.

It’s a unique number that you don’t often see from a position player, but Kwan has made it his own and it’s nice to hear that the number has true meaning to him.
Kwan is of both Chinese and Japanese descent, as his paternal grandparents are from China, while his maternal grandparents are from Japan.
Kwan also celebrated his 28th birthday on Friday, recording a pair of hits and a pair of RBIs in a much-needed 7-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays, who are one of a number of teams the Guardians are aiming to topple en route to securing that elusive third American League Wild Card spot.
Hopefully, the No. 38 continues to bring Kwan the luck and longevity needed to continue racking up All-Star selections and Gold Glove awards.
