For most of the season, the Cleveland Guardians have struggled to hit the ball out of the park.
They don’t have a lot of power in their lineup, so this isn’t much of a surprise.
Nevertheless, it also feels like they’re not giving one of their most intriguing weapons a legitimate opportunity to do his thing.
With that in mind, Matt Fontana took to X to put the team on blast for their decision not to play Kyle Manzardo more often:
“The fact that Kyle Manzardo has 17 home runs and still loses playing time to David Fry and Carlos Santana angers me. Also, he has 17 home runs while losing playing time to those guys. That’s pretty impressive,” Fontana posted on X.

Of course, both David Fry and Carlos Santana are proven veterans, so it makes sense that the team is trying to get them going, especially with a potential postseason run ahead of them.
Even so, Manzardo has been impressive despite the limited opportunities, and with no margin for error, maybe it’s time to give him an extended look, even if that means having the older stars take a back seat.
Manzardo should be one of the few untouchable players on this team right now, even if he’s not an everyday starter.
While not a star, he has shown interesting things, and he looks like the type of player who can be a steady and consistent contributor at the plate.
The Guardians will get plenty of calls at the trade deadline, most of which will most likely be centered around Steven Kwan and perhaps even Cade Smith.
Hopefully, both of them will stay, and Stephen Vogt will finally give Manzardo the extended opportunity he’s clearly so deserving of.
