For the Cleveland Guardians’ much-criticized offense to earn consistently good results, it needs daily contributions from its young core.
Yes, Jose Ramirez is the best player on the roster by far, but the ones who will really raise the team’s ceiling are Bo Naylor, Daniel Schneemann, Brayan Rocchio, Nolan Jones, Angel Martinez, Kyle Manzardo, and other young, promising players.
The Guardians have been negatively affected by Naylor’s season-long slump: more was expected from him after his brilliant minor league career, in which he posted a .781 OPS.
In parts of four MLB campaigns, however, he’s accumulated a disappointing .668 OPS.
He is also at .653 this year, further complicating the Guardians’ bottom-of-the-lineup production.
Still, the young catcher seems to be hitting his stride in the last few days or so.
“Cleveland Guardians’ (C) Bo Naylor with a double tonight now has 5 XBH over his last 7 games. 6-21, 6R, 3(2B), 2HR, 6RBI, 4BB, AVG .286, OBP .385,” Guardians Prospective posted on X.

Seven games are obviously a tiny sample size, but hey, they all count.
Everything Cleveland can get from Naylor will be gladly taken.
He has the potential to be much, much better than what he’s shown as a major leaguer so far, and these last seven games have been a reflection of his offensive potential.
The best version of Naylor can get some walks and hit for impactful power, as he showed in 2023 when he had a .809 OPS and 11 home runs in 67 games as a rookie.
Even if he can be a .740-.750-OPS guy in the future, he would be an asset for the Guardians, who are constantly looking for answers offensively.
