The National Baseball Hall of Fame has officially announced the list of eligible players for Cooperstown induction in 2025.
There are five former members of the Cleveland Guardians up for election.
CC Sabathia is probably the highest-profile name of those added to the ballot for the first time.
He has already been elected for the Guardians Hall of Fame for his contributions in the 2000s, and will now try to go for immortality.
But he is not the only former Guardian eligible for induction in this year’s period.
According to Cleveland.com, Manny Ramirez, Omar Vizquel, Hanley Ramirez and Carlos Gonzalez are also on the list among those who wore the Guardians uniform at some point in their careers.
“Sabathia is joined by Cleveland greats Manny Ramirez and Omar Vizquel as well as Hanley Ramirez and Carlos Gonzalez, who each appeared briefly for the Indians in the 2019 season,” Joe Noga wrote.
Sabathia finished his career with a 3.74 ERA and 251 wins, earning the 2007 AL Cy Young with Cleveland.
Ramirez will be in his ninth year of eligibility.
His ties with steroid use have severely damaged his HOF case, but he was one of the greatest sluggers ever to represent Cleveland baseball.
He retired with 555 home runs and 1,831 RBI, not to mention amazing play in the postseason.
Vizquel, one of the icons of Cleveland baseball in the nineties and early 2000s, is carried by his elite defense and his 11 Gold Glove awards but has seen his popularity among voters wane in recent years.
Hanley Ramirez and Gonzalez briefly played for the Guardians in the 2019 campaign, but had brilliant careers with other teams.
Both are eligible for the first time.
