The Cleveland Guardians have one of the most productive farm systems in all of baseball. They have always taken pride in their ability to build a team as opposed to buying one, and that should continue to be the case for many more years to come.
The Guardians are absolutely stacked in terms of young talent, and they may have more mouths to feed than they can right now. Of course, that’s the best problem any organization could have. That’s certainly the case with young infielder prospect Angel Genao.
As pointed out by Sleeper Guardians on X, the Guardians may have a potential superstar with him, and he continues to dominate in Winter Ball:
“Angel Genao is slashing a .325 AVG with a .773 OPS in LIDOM play this winter,” SleeperGuardians posted on X.
Genao should be a strong candidate to make the team’s Opening Day roster if he keeps this level of play up. Even if that’s not the case, he should be one of the leading candidates to get the nod and get called up at some point in the season.
Stephen Vogt’s team already has more than enough options for the middle of the infield. Juan Brito and Angel Martinez should also be in the mix for an opportunity, with Daniel Schneemann, Brayan Rocchio, and Gabriel Arias leading the way. There’s also former No. 1 pick Travis Bazzana, who’s firmly expected to be the second baseman of the future for this team.
And if Genao continues this ascending trajectory, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see both of them anchor the middle of the infield for years to come.
