While Juan Brito has been struggling as of late, the Cleveland Guardians have one of the best and most promising prospects in baseball, tearing up the International League in Triple-A. It’s none other than 2024 No. 1 draft pick Travis Bazzana, who happens to play the same position as Brito: second base.
The Guardians have been giving a lot of starts to Daniel Schneemann at the keystone, and while he has been highly productive, his true role is that of a super-utilityman. Brito’s struggles have somewhat taken away Schneemann’s versatility off the table.
Bazzana can only do one thing while he waits for the much-deserved promotion to MLB: hit. And he is doing just that in Columbus.
On Friday, he reached 11 doubles in the young International League season, leading the league in the process.
“Let’s make that ELEVEN doubles this season for Bazz! He connects for his second 2-run double of the night and increases the Columbus Clippers’ lead,” GuardsInsider posted on X.

With his first two-bagger of the night, Bazzana had already taken possession of the International League’s lead in the stat. But then he added another one for good measure, showing the world that there’s plenty of pop in his bat.
Bazzana reached base five times on Friday, going 2-for-3 with two walks and a hit by pitch. He scored twice and drove in four, while also stealing a base.
The star prospect is working on a 12-game on-base streak and is now hitting .297 on the season for the Clippers. His OBP is up to an impressive .429, and he is slugging a cool .527. His OPS stands at a beautiful .956.
At this point, the only reason why Bazzana is still in the minor leagues is the Guardians’ desire to secure an extra year of team control and, possibly, prevent the player from acquiring Super Two status. We could potentially see him up in May, but there is a chance the Guardians keep him down until June.
In any case, Bazzana’s time is coming. And he is shaping up to be a huge asset for the summer.
