The Cleveland Guardians are finally benefiting from an exciting injection of young talent on the big-league roster. The 2026 season began with rookie outfielder Chase DeLauter hitting homers just about every day and now fellow top prospect Travis Bazzana is manning second base, hopefully for the next decade or more.
As fun as DeLauter and Bazzana have been so far, they represent what is likely just the first new wave of young talent. More is on the way, and 25-year-old righty Daniel Espino could be a part of that next group.
Guardians Prospective shed some light on Espino after his most recent impressive performance for Triple-A Columbus. He hurled another scoreless inning and was clocked at 99.2 miles per hour, as usual.
“Cleveland #Guardians 25yr old RHP relief prospect Daniel Espino tossed a scoreless 8th inning of work today for Columbus in the team’s win over Toledo. Line – 1.0(IP) 1H 0R 0ER 2BB 1SO (24 Pitches 12 Strikes). Espino topped out at 99.2 mph. 2026: – 9.2(IP) 7H 3ER 8BB 11SO 2.79 ERA,” said Guardians Prospective.

As effective as Espino has been thus far, the one number that jumps out at you is the walks. He obviously has the stuff to make a big impact in the majors at some point soon, but it’s going to be hard to call him up until he can learn how to better harness his electric stuff.
Espino has always had the stuff of an ace, but he has had to endure one injury after another. The fact that he is now healthy and progressing through the minors with his 100mph fastball is a win in and of itself.
Cleveland’s bullpen endured a lot of struggles earlier this season, but things are starting to round into form now that everybody is healthy and getting used to their roles. Espino’s number will surely be called at some point and he will find his place in that pen, but he has to get the walks under control first.
