The Cleveland Guardians have an important group of potentially impactful young position players who could help provide some answers to the organization’s hitting woes.
Bo Naylor has already been called up and made a good impression, while Brayan Rocchio, Gabriel Arias, George Valera, and Johnathan Rodriguez have varying types of upside.
Further down the farm, we have 18-year-old outfielder Jaison Chourio.
The brother of MLB Pipeline’s number two prospect in the league, Jackson Chourio, Jaison is just getting his feet wet in full-season ball stateside.
After tearing up the Complex League, the Guards had him play nine games in Single-A to finish 2023.
Even though he struggled with a .200/.310/.229 line there and a 35.7 percent strikeout rate, it’s easy to see why he has such a bright future.
Between all levels, Chourio stole 20 bases in just 48 games.
His power output, however, was a bit disappointing: just one home run.
He is working to change that.
“#Guardians 18yr old switch hitting OF prospect Jaison Chourio looking visibly stronger as he participates in a training session HR derby back home in Venezuela. If Chourio continues to fill out and add more pop to his game his ceiling as a prospect will just continue to rise in 2024,” Guardians Prospective tweeted.

He is already looking like he added some muscle to his projectable frame.
In the video, you can see how the ball jumps off the bat, offering some hope for the future.
Chourio is a well above-average athlete and runner, so if he can consistently hit for power, his upside could be similar to that of his brother.
He still has a long way to go before reaching the majors, but the future is bright and there is plenty of time to refine his tools.
