The Cleveland Guardians need everybody to step up.
That has been the case over the past couple of weeks, and after a tough start to the season, there’s little margin for error.
That’s why Tanner Bibee knows he has to be better.
Following a win against the Baltimore Orioles, the pitcher opened up on the tough stretch the team had to endure.
“We all knew it was going to swing back our way eventually and we just had to be ready for it and ride as long as we can,” Bibee said. “That’s the struggle of such a long season, trying to figure out obviously who we are and ride the wave and make sure the highs are a lot longer than the lows.”
Bibee earned his second consecutive win after dropping his previous five decisions.
He’s shown what he can do when he’s at his best, and with the most crucial stretch of the season still ahead, the team is doing the right thing by trusting him.
The Guardians’ rotation has gone deep into games during their seven-game homestand, and with an elite bullpen waiting to wrap things up, that’s usually a recipe for success, especially with the offense showing signs of life after major struggles last month.
Slade Cecconi has been solid, and Gavin Williams matched his season high in strikeouts (11) in his last outing.
So, with Shane Bieber about to make his way back at some point in the next couple of weeks, the rotation might be at its best when it matters most.
