Travis Bazzana hit a baseball to the second deck at Citizens Bank Park on Sunday afternoon. Steven Kwan’s reaction to it might have been even better.
Bazzana launched a towering solo home run off Phillies reliever Jonathan Bowlan in the eighth inning that gave Cleveland an insurance run and helped seal a 3-1 series clinching victory over Philadelphia. The blast was mammoth, the kind of ball that draws a reaction from everyone in the ballpark. But it was Kwan’s dugout reaction that caught the attention of the internet and sent the moment into a different orbit entirely.
“My goodness. Travis Bazzana sends one to the second deck,” MLB posted on X.

The home run itself deserves its own recognition. It was Bazzana’s third of the season and came at the perfect time, arriving one inning after the Phillies had cut Cleveland’s lead in half and threatening to turn what had been a comfortable afternoon into something more stressful. Instead of allowing Philadelphia any momentum heading into the ninth, Bazzana put the game away with one swing and gave Cade Smith a two-run cushion to work with when he came out to close things down.
Bazzana, making just his second career start in the leadoff spot, reached base three times on the afternoon and now has 10 RBI and 11 runs scored across his first 24 career games. Those are the kind of numbers that suggest a player who was built for this stage, and the second deck home run in a road park against a team fighting for its own playoff position is exactly the kind of moment that defines a young career in the making.
Kwan was doing plenty of his own damage before the homer gave him something to celebrate from the dugout. The left fielder went 3-4 with an RBI single in the fifth inning that gave Cleveland its first lead of the game.
The Guardians have now won 11 of their last 13 games. Bazzana’s home run will be remembered for a while. Kwan’s reaction to it might last even longer.
