Cleveland Guardians fans will not have to wait long to see Rhys Hoskins in action.
Manager Stephen Vogt shared an update on the team’s newest addition, saying Hoskins is expected to get into a game “towards the end of this week.” The timeline suggests his Guardians debut could come within the next few days as he ramps up during spring training.
“Right now, he’s building up his legs to be able to play in game action. He should get into a game towards the end of this week,” Vogt said.

That approach fits the situation well. Hoskins joins a roster that already features options at first base and designated hitter, including Kyle Manzardo. Rather than being handed a role outright, Hoskins appears ready to compete and carve out his spot.
The veteran slugger brings right handed power and experience, two elements the Guardians were looking to add. His ability to handle left-handed pitching and provide pop in the middle of the order could give Cleveland more lineup flexibility once the regular season begins.
Spring training will give the coaching staff a chance to evaluate how Hoskins fits defensively and how quickly his timing comes around at the plate. Even a handful of early at-bats can help set the tone for how the team structures its first base and designated hitter rotation.
For now, the focus is simply getting him on the field. If all goes according to plan, Guardians fans should get their first look at Hoskins in a Cleveland uniform before the week is over.
