The Cleveland Guardians ran into trouble on Tuesday afternoon, falling 11-3 against the Los Angeles Dodgers in spring training action.
Cleveland jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the second inning, but the momentum quickly shifted. The Dodgers responded with a five-run third inning and never looked back, adding on throughout the game to secure the victory.
“#Guardians drop their first spring game in an 11-3 loss to the Dodgers. Travis Bazzana brings in all 3 runs with a homerun before heading to the WBC,” Mason Horodyski wrote.

Travis Bazzana provided one of the bright spots for the Guardians. The young infielder went 2 for 3 with a home run and three runs batted in, accounting for all of Cleveland’s scoring. His swing looked quick and confident, and he continued to show why the organization is excited about his development.

George Valera and Stuart Fairchild each collected a hit and scored a run, while Wuilfredo Antunez also added a base knock. However, the lineup struggled to string together consistent offense outside of the early innings.
On the mound, Gavin Williams got the start and allowed one earned run over 1.1 innings of work. After that, the bullpen had difficulty containing the Dodgers’ lineup. Colin Holderman surrendered five earned runs in just 0.2 innings, and Austin Peterson allowed four runs over 1.1 frames.
Several other relievers turned in scoreless outings, including Connor Brogdon, Jack Leftwich, and Tanner Burns, but the damage had already been done.
While the loss drops Cleveland to 4-1 in spring play, there were still individual performances worth noting. Bazzana’s continued production stands out, and the coaching staff will look to build on that positive as the team moves forward.
