The Cleveland Guardians can’t afford to have one of their best players out right now.
That’s especially true if you consider how disappointing their outfield has been this season.
That’s why fans were ready to sound the alarm as soon as they saw Steven Kwan leave their game early on Wednesday.
The outfielder reportedly was dealing with some right wrist inflammation and wasn’t there to close out a 7-4 comeback win against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Progressive Field.
Following the victory, Stephen Vogt shared some encouraging news about Kwan.
The manager revealed he took him out mostly for precautionary reasons, and because they would have a day off before their next game, he was optimistic.
“He kind of felt it on his swing, and we get 48 hours till our next game,” Vogt said. “We felt like it was the right call to just get him out of there, but he should be good to go on Friday.”
The Guardians begin a series with the Los Angeles Angels and will need Kwan, who’s having perhaps the best season of his career.
He’s slashing .311/.371/.425 with an OPS of .795 and is on pace to get another All-Star nod in the American League.
He’s been Cleveland’s second-best hitter behind Jose Ramirez, and having him miss an extended period could spell disaster.
The Guardians haven’t gotten much offensive production from their outfield, with Nolan Jones and Jhonkensy Noel struggling at the plate.
Hopefully, this was nothing but a scare and Kwan will be back on the field for the weekend series.
