Injuries are a part of the game, and the Cleveland Guardians have had their fair share of struggles with that.
Fortunately, they might get one of their key reinforcements back on the field.
According to a report by Cleveland.com, manager Stephen Vogt revealed that injured OF Lane Thomas has started taking swings:
“[Lane Thomas] was able to take some swings today, so he’s trending towards game activity soon,” Vogt said.
He is reportedly inching closer to a potential return to the field.
The veteran outfielder sustained a wrist contusion on April 8th during the team’s home opener vs. the Chicago White Sox.
He hadn’t necessarily been raking the ball before his injury, though.
Prior to getting hurt, he was batting just .172 through his first 31 plate appearances, and he was reportedly dealing with some pain.
He went 2 for 15 with seven strikeouts before the team ultimately chose to shut him down and place him on the Injured List on April 22.
It’s been an up-and-down start to the season for the Guardians, but they’ve still shown glimpses of being the same team that went the distance last season.
Thomas might not be a superstar or the most prominent slugger on the team, but his veteran presence will certainly help the team’s case.
In his absence, the Guardians will continue to rely on their combination of Angel Martinez, Nolan Jones, and Daniel Schneemann to take care of business in the center field.
Hopefully, it won’t be long before we see him back on the field, and the team will provide more updates as they become available.
