The Cleveland Guardians made a postseason run to the American League Championship Series in 2024 with their very young but talented roster.
One of the postseason surprises for the team was the performance of David Fry, who hit a walk-off home run in game three of the ALCS against the New York Yankees.
While Fry had both a productive regular season and postseason, he underwent right elbow surgery this offseason and will miss at least the beginning of the 2025 season.
Guardians Manager Stephen Vogt revealed the outlook on Fry’s injury.
“The outlook looks like six to eight months before he’ll be able to hit, and he probably won’t be able to throw at all next year,” Vogt said.
"We're going to do what's best for David [Fry] and his career first."

Vogt mentions that sometime in May looks like the earliest that they will get Fry’s bat back in the lineup, but it all depends on how the recovery process goes.
Fry came into the league with the Guardians in 2023 and played his second career season in 2024.
In 2024, Fry played in 122 games and batted .263 with 14 home runs, 51 RBIs, and a .804 OPS.
Fry also had an impressive postseason where he played 10 games and batted .286 with two home runs, eight RBIs, and a .869 OPS.
Vogt says that Fry probably won’t be able to throw at all in 2025, so the best-case scenario would be to get his bat back into the lineup, but they will only do so when he is ready to avoid risking re-injury.
The Guardians will hope to get Fry back in the lineup as soon as possible as they try to win the American League Central for the second consecutive year.
